CalScan Calorie Counter

Privacy Policy

What CalScan collects, why, and what stays on your phone.

Last updated: 7 August 2026

The short version. Your food diary, weight and calorie targets never leave your phone. The only thing sent to our server is the meal photo you choose to scan, and it is used solely to estimate that meal. There are no ads, no trackers, and we do not sell data.

Who we are

CalScan is developed by Murat Güven. This policy explains how the CalScan iOS app handles your information. If you have a question about anything here, email [email protected].

CalScan has no accounts and no sign-up. You do not give us your name, email address or phone number to use the app.

What stays on your device

The following is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad and is never transmitted to us:

Deleting the app removes all of it. We have no copy and cannot recover it.

What we collect

DataWhyHow long
Meal photos Sent to our server to estimate calories, protein, fat and carbohydrate for that meal. Processed and discarded. Not added to any profile or training set.
A pseudonymous user ID Sent with each scan so we can apply your scan allowance and stop abuse of the endpoint. It is a random identifier, not your name or Apple ID. Kept while you use the app.
Device identifier and purchase records Collected by RevenueCat, our subscription provider, to know which plan you are on and to restore purchases on a new device. Kept while your subscription record exists.

All of it is used for app functionality only. None of it is used for advertising, and none of it is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Your photos

When you tap the camera button, iOS asks your permission for the camera or photo library. CalScan only ever reads the single image you select.

That image is uploaded over an encrypted connection to our analysis service at https://makeebook.store, which returns the estimated nutrition values. The photo is used for that request and is not published, shared or sold. The copy kept for your diary thumbnail is stored on your device, not with us.

Who else is involved

We do not use advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the data we hold, to object to processing, or to complain to a supervisory authority. Because CalScan holds almost nothing about you, most of this is immediate:

Write to [email protected] for any of these. We may ask you to confirm the request came from the same device.

Age

CalScan is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app and sent us a photo, email us and we will delete any associated record.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the analysis service is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but because we deliberately keep your diary on your device rather than on a server, there is very little about you for anyone to obtain from us.

Changes

If we change how CalScan handles your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be described in the App Store release notes.
